A Canadian veteran from the Sherbrooke Fusiliers, who was ready to die for his King and country.

In 1944, Hugh Buckley was 19 years old. During 4 months, he trained intensely for the invasion in London. The long awaited day finally arrived, the crossing was horrible, he was seasick and scared. Before landing on the beach in Bernières-sur-Mer, he was shown a picture of a big house, their landmark.

When Hugh returned to Bernières-sur-Mer for the 70th Anniversary of Dday, he emotionally discovered that that same house had been renamed “Canada House”.
